Innovationproject for CREMER Sustainable Nutrition
EIT Food, the EU-supported food innovation community, and Mars Petcare, global leader in animal nutrition, have launched an innovation competition to answer this question: the "Fiber Valorisation for Pet Food Challenge".
Participants were invited to submit solutions to convert agricultural processing by-products into proteins or sugars that can be digested by dogs and cats.
From more than 50 applications from start-ups, research institutes and established companies, Mars Petcare R&D managers invited nine organisations to a demo day. At the end of the day, CREMER Sustainable Nutrition was one of two winners. Mars is now working with them on proof-of-concept studies for the pet food market
CREMER Sustainable Nutrition's innovative process improves the digestibility and taste of plant fibres in pet food. It combines traditional, proven technology with innovative solid-state fermentation.
We are excited about the potential of this project: to push the boundaries of what is possible in sustainable pet food by combining our innovation with a wealth of expertise along the value chain.
The development of the CREMER process has also been supported by the feed expertise of other CREMER companies. The forthcoming studies with Mars will take place at the CREMER OleoServ laboratory in Uetersen - a successful example of cooperation within the CREMER group of companies.
