History
Already in the 1960s, CREMER took a first, far-sighted step towards developing into a worldwide operating company, when it established its production companies in Thailand and Indonesia.
Along the value-added chain, CREMER then evolved into an international specialist company focusing on trade, the processing and transport of basic commodities and raw materials, as well as the development and manufacture of oleochemical products.
After the company had been established in Hannover, trading successfully in grain, animal feed, and other agricultural products, Cremer Group moved to the Hanseatic city of Hamburg nine years after the end of World War II. It did not take long until the company expanded abroad with the installation of the first production plants in Thailand. Then, a shipping company was founded in the late 1960's.
With further branches set up in South America, Cremer Group gradually established itself on the world markets. More successful enterprises followed: molasses, oleochemicals, cornflakes. The German unification opened up new opportunities for the company – opportunities that brought with them the challenges of responsibly developing the new federal states in the east.
This period saw the foundation of Cremer Steel, the alien among the Groups companies. Meanwhile, the Cremer Group continued its successful expansion abroad: Bulgaria, Singapore, Hungary, USA, the United Kingdom – all of these big challenges were overcome by employees and general management together in creative cooperation.
The new millenium brought with it new opportunities for the Cremer Group. In the UK, the company established Prime Molasses. Further companies followed in France, Australia, the Czech Republic, and Indonesia. Yet, also in Germany did the Cremer Group continue on the road to success: it acquired new companies such as Deuka in Düsseldorf and founded CremerEnergy GmbH to start trading biodiesel.
Despite the global financial and economic crisis, CREMER steered safely through these stormy years, unfaltering in its pursuit of success. Thus, several new companies were founded and others acquired such as Gesellschaft für Tierernährung (GfT) in Wildeshausen. The sister companies Deuka and Cremer Futtermühlen were merged into Deutsche Tiernahrung Cremer.
The Cremer Group becomes CREMER. Possehl Erzkontor GmbH is acquired in stages to expand and strengthen our trade businesses portfolio. A Representative Office of Peter Cremer (Singapore) GmbH is opening in Ho Chi Minh City.In 2017, Cremer celebrates its 50-year anniversary, Cremer Steel celebrates 25 years of successful steel trade.
Extensive modernisation of production locations is undertaken to remain competitive in the market. The Lübeck site is extended and developed for the production of innovative Cornflake products. The purchase of four compound feed plants in Southern Germany helps to strengthen our market position. Additional production sites are established in Wuxi, China, and near London. The industrial oleo sites in Witten and Wittenberge, as well as the Walter Rau AG, Neuss, are sold for strategic reasons.
In 2016, our long-standing managing partner Stefan Cremer passes away. As chair of the board Dr Ullrich Wegner takes over. The close ties of the Cremer family to the company ensures the sustainable development of CREMER. Through international expansion, consistent integration of our offices, and continuous portfolio upgrades, CREMER is firmly focused on the future, even after 75 years of company history.
