CREMER implements protein growth strategy with strategic partner Food Harbour Hamburg
CREMER has set itself the clear strategic goal of further expanding the growth and value contribution of its Food division and, as an experienced B2B supplier of plant-based raw materials, becoming a relevant player in the current nutrition transformation.
"Plant-based raw materials have been part of our DNA as a third-generation family business since we started trading grains and pulses in 1946," said Dr. Ullrich Wegner, Chief Executive Officer of CREMER.
Today, CREMER is active worldwide as a B2B supplier with the production, processing and refining of a wide variety of plant-based raw materials. For example, CREMER also has Deutsche Tiernahrung Cremer as a leading producer and marketer of animal feed in Germany, Nordgetreide as a high-profile producer of cereals for the food industry and retail, and Viridi Foods as a specialist in the production of protein, starch and plant-based flours.
In 2022, CREMER also opened its first contract manufacturing plant for alternative protein products in Singapore.
Marcel Strassburg, Global Head of M&A and New Ventures at CREMER, says: "In the future, we want to network the diverse competencies and resources of our specialists around the future topic of new protein sources even more closely and systematically expand them with the support of the Food Harbour team."
To this end, CREMER and Food Harbour Hamburg have agreed on a multi-year strategic partnership to leverage the diverse expertise of the full-service food accelerator to expand CREMER's activities.
"We were particularly excited by Food Harbour Hamburg's broad network of science, innovation and market know-how," explains Nils Rupp, Head of Strategy and Corporate Development for CREMER Sustainable Nutrition. "We achieve our ambitious goals best with the corresponding competence partners, many of whom are already part of the Harbour's network," Rupp continues.
"As a 'hidden champion', CREMER is a very exciting partner for us with enormous potential to benefit from the ongoing boom of plant-based alternatives as a high-performance supplier," says Harbour co-founder and CEO Jochen Matzer. Especially the global orientation with a strong presence in Asia also makes CREMER an interesting partner for the other players in the value chain, he adds. "CREMER thus demonstrates the special quality of a family-owned company that perceives market changes early on and consistently realigns itself to them," says Matzer.
In a strategy workshop with the Food Harbor Hamburg team, the nutrition professionals from CREMER identified joint growth potential. The workshop also included a baking session with the special flours from Viridi Foods.
